Psychobiology incorporates several innovative tools that take the
place of conventional textbook study guides, and the software allows students
to focus on critical material using a variety of multimedia presentations
commonly available with the PC. Extensive animations are used to teach
conceptually-difficult material such as ion flow, membrane potentials,
neurotransmitter release and degradation, gross neuroanatomy, and sensory
transduction and receptor systems. Students explore modules that progress
from membrane potentials to sensory transduction and receptor systems.
Students use a complete online manual that
can be viewed or printed at any point in the programs. A student
Notebook
is
contained in all modules that provides a concise review of critical information
that has just been studied, in addition to an online test bank with practice
essay and multiple-choice questions. Psychobiology Help provides
extensive treatment of background information, in addition to the Active
Glossary which features pronunciations of difficult terms with
the PC's multimedia sound system. All anatomy modules (8 total) contain
the Macroscope Viewer and Lab Draw,a easy-to-learn
point-and-click viewing/drawing system that allows students to learn introductory
human neuroanatomy by the use of a "coloring book" feature which
features labeled high-resolution coronal sections of the human forebrain,
midbrain, and hindbrain as coloring book templates.
Principles of Psychobiology
also
employs "dynamic illustrations" that provide students with some of the
best illustrations of concepts and facts -- The illustrations, themselves, are
animated, and allow students to manipulate and explore facts critical to
the major topics -- This feature cannot be provided by traditional textbooks
and study guides. Principles of Psychobiology was developed
by a university professor using knowledge of what is needed to convey critical
concepts to introductory students, and the software has been
extensively tested by students in the classroom. |
